The Science of Persuasion and Human Nature
Research shows that perceived scarcity has an influence on one's willingness to buy a product. This kind of research, obviously, has proven to be enormously valuable and spawned a whole new field of social science research. But we have to be careful not to overestimate the scope of what a particular research programme is claiming about persuasion and human nature. For example, it's worth noting that childin's work is fairly superficial as behavior science goes. Its target is observable social behavior, not underlying biological or psychological mechanisms that might explain this behavior.
