There are examples of Brits singing in their own accents too. The genre that you choose also dictates the way the accent that you use when you sing. In 1983, Peter Trudgill published an oft-cited study which is often cited or often referenced. He concluded that acts like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones incorporated American phonetics because they were so influenced by American musicians.
