There is a difference between building a giant accelerator and doing other kinds of experiments. The kind of answers you would get are just not achievable in any other way. There's some kinds of new particles that you just can't discover in that indirect way. And finally, i think i said two things, but it's really three things.

Welcome to the June 2022 Ask Me Anything episode of Mindscape! We are inaugurating a slightly different publication schedule, in which these monthly AMA will take the place of one of the regular Monday episodes, rather than being in addition to all of them.
