X-FAT is a non-patent encumbered, widely available everywhere version of the old MS-DOS style file system. It produces less churn than most file systems do which means less wear on a device that can't take it. The actual disadvantage to using X-Fat is you can't set ownership and permissions. So if you need multi-user ownership and permissions, or you just need those to stay intact, then you probably should be considering the majority file system for your normal day-to-day device.
