Judas Maccabeus and Jonathan "'Goes to Gilead"
Judas Maccabeus and Jonathan his brother crossed the Jordan into the wilderness. They encountered the Nabataeans, who met them peaceably "'and told them all that had happened"' to their brethren in Gilead. Judas sent men to spy out the camp where Timothy was encamped with a large force of Gentiles. "They also have hired Arabs to help them," they said; 'they are ready to come and fight against you" The Israelites were able to stand no longer before Judea's conquerors.
