Poetry Makes Nothing Happen

Auden famously wrote, poetry makes nothing happen. He seems to have thought a lot about the role of a poet in times of historical crisis. His poem Funeral Blues was recited in the movie For Weddings in a Funeral by one of the characters for his gay lover. The eulogy is a declaration of their marriage under conditions where that marriage was forbidden.
