The Importance of Summarization in Medicine

When a patient has been there for say a few weeks and they've had every day they've been seen on the ward round, there's maybe like 3 to 4,000 words of text. When they're leaving the hospital, someone usually the most junior kind of doctor on the team has to write maybe like a two to 300 word summary of what's happened with then instructions for either the patient or the primary care or GP doctor to then carry out. And it's essentially a really kind of boring task which is just more sitting through on a computer, sifting through text and summarizing it.
