The Importance of Complicated Characters in Poetry
I think my grandmother was my moral compass and I think she's like the epitome of a good character in a work of fiction. When we are writing about subjects of brutality, we tend to paint them as perfect victims. My grandmother had some tendencies that were not super progressive,. She'll say things that sometimes can be classless because she had been robbed of an upper middle class life and then rendered without a dime to her name. People identify with complicated people because we are complicated beings.
