The Importance of Immunofixation
In immunofixation, there is additional testing that has to be done if you want to know what's in the spike. Is this a Kappa or Lambda immunoglobulin? And it can also tell us the Immunoglobulin class. IgG is certainly the most common. IgM is the rarest. There are some implications for prognosis based on what class of immunoglobulus is present in that m spike.
