The Importance of Being Independent
If as a child you observed your father exerting control over your mother, and she lacked financial freedom, this can actually send a message that you need to basically be independent. You will also panic about being a burden on a partner when it comes to money. If you heard stuff like money is the root of all evil, people don't really feel bad if they have someone around with them who doesn't share their sense of self-reliance.
