Is the Self a Constructor of the Body?
The self is something that emerges through the interaction of the brain body cognition, environment and social system norms. So when people say the self is an illusion, they often think of the self in this narrow way. That's a tendentious language because it starts with a very narrow assumption about how we should think of what a self is or what a self could be. But then why would we cast it that way from the beginning? I mean, there are historical reasons why in some context it gets cast that way. But generally speaking, I think we can see with a little bit of reflection that's not the right way to cast things.
