The Secret History of Silicon Valley
Fred Terman was the co-inventor of the transistor. He decided to found a semiconductor company in Mountain View California right down the street from Stanford. Lockheed missiles and space division went from zero employees in 1956 to close to 30,000 10 years later. In fact, Lockheed, building the Polaris Poseidon and Trident S.B.Ms, was the largest employer in Silicon Valley for about 30 years.
