The Epidemiology of Chronic Opioid Use and OCD in North America
The incidence of opioid-induced respiratory depression may be less than 1%, but it really depends on the opioid characteristics, population of interest, and importantly on definitions. In some populations, for example, in individuals with chronic pain in individuals with COPD, we have this increase in prescription in long-term opioids. But I would say that current opioid epidemic is not driven by prescribed opioids anymore.
