What Is a Semiconductor?

A semiconductor is a material that conducts electricity conditionally. Chips are usually made from smooth, dark slices of silicon. These components are positioned on the silicon surface to modify electrical currents. A single chip may house tens of billions of transistors with gates just a few nanometers wide.
