The Importance of Being You

This is not an anti family poem. To me, this is a poem that recognizes that you still need to be you, the individual, as well as a part of that family that you exist within. As he says, who shall say, I am not the happy genius of my household? Yes, he's happy to call himself a genius. But he needed this. He needed to remind himself that loneliness of being on your own, of not being part of the big picture,. Of just being separate from the others. That is, you need that. You need that. If you lose that, you lose yourself.
