When I started fundraising I was taught that it takes 12 to 18 months to build major donor relationship because it takes a long time to build trust. And what it ultimately led to for me was this feeling of inauthenticity in my relationships and it was because I had this underlying goal that I felt like I wasn't able to talk about but I was always kind of thinking about. Once I finally realized that I could actually start a relationship with the funder  it allowed me to build trust so much faster.
