Stack Overflow Question - 80 Columns

Before computers existed, you had to input all your data or code into computers using punch cards. A standard punch card is a grid where you have ten rows down and 80 columns across. You would write your programme out, like a long hand in paper, then you would punch it into the cards. And so if you went over 80 characters, you were dead.
