The sci-fi literary world is a bit tied pool because there was a ladder, but there wasn't like the mainstream literature ladder. Nobody at Cyberpunk ever wanted to be on the cover of Time magazine or when Wired magazine showed up and started recruiting science fiction writers as reporters. You could be a big frog in sci-fi's pond and nobody else would know anything about it.
