Diocletian and the Romans

Despite his political disdain for the city, diocletian felt that it would be in bad taste to let the city fall into disrepair. He was immediately put on edge by the attitude of the citizens who he found himself face to face with for the first time. This unpleasantness was then compounded by the behaviour of the romans at the games themselves. After almost two decades of being treated with d reverence wherever he went, it was a bit of a shock to be thrust into a world where the princeps model still believed to be in effect.
