Don't Say Thank You for Your Service

I just feel a little frustrated whenever I hear because I'm a guy who wants to know the thing to say. So when soldiers which I completely understand say don't say thank you for your service. By the way all our US armed forces people please don't take the wrong way. Please teach me the right thing to do and say to certain groups to have them feel appreciated.
