Freud's Insinuation of the Incest Taboo

Freud believed that we all have an innate desire to compete with our same-sex parent for the attentions of our opposite-sex parents. Jung saw it as a sort of spiritual impulse, a symbolic expression of a regressive urge to kind of retreat back into childhood consciousness. Freud really demanded loyalty to his theory about the nature of the sexual impulse and sexual repression. When Jung dared to express a difference that was the end of their partnership and their friendship.
