How Did the French Deal With the Sahel?
The problem with independence is that it also came with the breaking up of a very specific political and economic system. The french did not put much effort to make the sahel economy of the sil countries economically viable, since they thought of them as these e partners of the economies of the gulf of guinea. That's why, when they became independent, their challenges were actually bigger than the ones of faced by cotivoir or even senegal,. which is ahelian but also coastal.
