The Paradox of the Future

We're very bad at talking rationally about what happens to us in extreme situations. This is just a human foible though right? You could tell ask everyone you know what risk will you be prepared to tolerate if the alternative is evacuating from your home. It's hard to predict of course because things are changing so fast. In medieval times even though they thought the whole world might end they thought the lives of their children and their grandchildren would be more or less like theirs. Now I think we don't have much confidence in predicting what everyday life would be like 50 years from now.
