Magellan's Expedition to the Pacific

Magellan and his fleet thought the worse was behind them after reaching the Pacific. But this new ocean seemed endless, much larger than anyone had anticipated. The crew began to suffer as food sucks windled and their water supply spoiled. Their provisions of beans, lentils, pork, cheese, and fish shrank then disappeared. To everyone's surprise, the glaciers were neither white nor gray but a light's almost iridescent blue that in the crevices and seams darkened to a deep azure.
