Collectivism and the Soviet Model of Development
Ukrainian agriculture would have been much more profitable had it never been collectivized, obviously. But the things which seem inevitable and happen because people think they're inevitable then become models. The whole Chinese revolution does not happen in the form that it happens without the Soviet revolution. That wouldn't have happened in China without the Soviet model. And likewise, without the famine that we're talking about here, there wouldn't have been a similar famine,. although on a much greater scale in China, a couple of decades later on.
