I don't remember saying anything in that direct but I do wonder if you pressed him on it, maybe in say 1976 1977. He never quite learned he never quite was able to absorb the experience that that was common knowledge at that time. There really is no excuse for a Marxist not to know about the culture of the revolution in China. They simply choose to deny or to rationalize or to explain away.
