The Isma'ili's and the Sunni Muslims
The Isma'ili's held that a law handed down by a prophet is not enough. This law also needs to be interpreted, which is the role of subsequent figures who explain the inner meaning of the prophet's revelation. These claims were robustly attacked by some other Muslims and accused them of demoting the importance of the prophet himself. In two episodes we'll turn to the theological underpinnings of the Sunni revival as we look at the Asherites. And it will be worth spending one more episode in their company.
