The Third Intermediate Period of Egypt's History
Egypt was never consistently unified long enough for a single dynasty to cement itself as the unchallenged rulers of the country. The third intermediate period lasted from around 1070 BC to 664 BC, nearly as long as the New Kingdom and longer than the Middle Kingdom. There were times of unified rule and even renewed empire during the third intermediate period but those periods never amounted to the long ages of efflorescence that we associate with the three classical ages in ancient Egypt's history.
