Deforestation accounts for about 10% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. When these trees are cut down or burned, they then release all that carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere. So when you say 420 million hectares have been lost since 1990, I'm imagining 420 million football pitches if that's even possible to imagine.
