The Trinity: The Operating Center of Christian Belief

The writer of Hebrews says that Jesus was quote anointed with the oil of joy, meaning people like the author of that book who knew Jesus best said he was incredibly joyful. God acts as the one who gives pleasure, creates desire and rewards with enjoyment. This is what we mean when we say that God is beautiful. If we deny this, we at once have a God without radiance and without joy and without humor, a God without beauty.
