The Importance of Prior Knowledge in Reading
In a place where you emphasize knowledge and make a big deal out about what kids know before they read it, that's really doing a lot of cases. You reinforce their preconceptions which leads them not to have a better purchase on what they're about to read but to actually just reconfirm their preconceptions. And so there's the bad part of knowledge. It allows you to ignore what authors are telling you.
