The Basis for Trust

When we invest trust in somebody, we are trusting that the perception that we have of them will consistently come back. And if it comes back consistently, then we know our basis for trusting is correct. But if it doesn't come back, and we start to pick up messages that something is off about our perception of things, that means that we need to reassess. We would rather rely on our first impression than actually pay attention to all the subsequent impressions, information that we have received. This is how we get ourselves into pain.
