I studied Sir John suckling at school. He's one of this group called the Cavalier Poets, who are all in favor of King Charles. The poet Ballad upon a wedding contains an early masturbation joke. I think it's saying that if the groom had slept with the bride as often as all the sort of invited male friends had imagined themselves doing it, it would have spoiled him surely.
