We are temporary little bits of complex structure in the universe that are part of the overall increase of entropy over time. Part of this complexity is our ability to think about and model ourselves and the rest of the universe, to do what psychologists call mental time travel. It's that ability, that imagination, that flow through time, that makes us what we are as human beings. That means we are ephemeral. We are not going to last forever.
