Is Donald Trump a Democrat or a Republican?

Trump's policies seemed fairly pedestrian to me nationalistic of course is a mercantilistic in a way but not so different from the rest of the right wing. The Democrats for decades have been effectively just simply demonizing their opponents as monsters, you know, Hitler's, bad bad evil wicked people. Donald Trump picked up their method, their method of nasty personal attack and he started attacking his own Republican foes.
