Vikings did not have horns on their helmets, this would have been highly impractical. But rather there are a few surviving religious figurines of deities and also figures probably representing gods in woven tapestries. This image nonetheless caught on in 19th century popular art in theater as a sort of visual code for the Vikings. The overarching goal of these norms it seems was fame.
