Ponzai schemes had been around since the 18th century, but a named after Charles Ponzi. He collected more than $8 million for about 30,000 investors in just 7 months before the scheme collapsed. As long as people continue to invest, their detection can be difficult and take time. However, when future investment dries up, the whole charade quickly collapses.
