A Brief History of Central Asia

Some of these towns grew into sizable cities with citadels, fortified palaces and dense urban centres. They benefited from trade, increasingly long distance trade that was carried on by the nomads. And they began to open up greater and greater contact with surrounding civilizations, especially china. Some of these towns came to be known as sources of very desirable foods, especially fruits like melons and peaches.
