The Consequences of Keeping the Central African Franc or Ditching It

The nine West African states have put forward the idea of an Eko waas currency. The currency would be shared by Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bazelle, Cote de Bois, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo. Most of this currency in actual practice would end up being administered by France. And there's talk of it still being backed by the euro to prevent some of the inflation seen throughout the region.
