The Effects of Exercise on Bone Mineral Density

In 2004, 2005, I had an internist join my lab who thought he wanted to get some clinical research experience. Dan Berry was a former competitive road cyclist and road cyclist as a cyclist as a group of athletes tend to have low bone mineral density. And for his first independent project, he decided to follow a group of competitive road cyclists for a year. He measured their bone density roughly every three months. Looking just at the hip, it was almost a 2% decrease,. which is not unlike the accelerated rate of bone loss that we see in post-ventopausal women after losing ovarian espergens.
