The Use of the Abortion Issue as a Wedge Issue by the Republican Party
The use of the abortion issue by the republican party started really with regan and with his need to find a reliable group of voters who would turn out for the republican party. And he found them in the am fundamentalist protestant churches in the united states, who hadn't really been involved with the political process beforehand. So that's part of the reason why this is kept up by the republicanparty. There's a set of structural incentives, in the form of a electoral incentives that exist for them. But it's also why a, and i would argue that the republicans don't have a national interest in actually repealing the roverses. Weighed judgment, it's too good an issue
