The Importance of a Voice in the Local and Regional Process
Mark Latham says the voice has one key function. And that is improving the services, the delivery of government in local communities. It means ground truth in the ideas that are developed in Canberra. The National Voice could advise the Minister on how to reform a remote area employment scheme called the Community Development Programme. This week the Liberal Party determined its position to support constitutional recognition, but not the voice in the Constitution. You had differences with that position and resigned from the front bench. Now, mid year, your appointment as shadow minister for Indigenous Australians raised hopes that the opposition might offer bipartisanship on the issue.
