Are We Rewarding Those Who Seek Adversity?

In the modern day, how do candidates who are beginning training line up against those from the 19 eighties? My completely anecdotal opinion, that doesn't count for shit. And i personally, one of my biggest concerns is that we, as a fucking society, are as soft as we have ever been and as least tolerant to adversity as we've ever been. That's no other way to put it than that.
