I think it's definitely true that any attempt to create a mind on a computer will be very different from the kind of mind that we have. In fact, that's one of the big problems in AI research right now. It's the problem of how to align goals of an artificial mind with our goals. I think ultimately, and this is a reason why the book is a lot about spiritual or religious questions.
