China started establishing diplomatic ties with pacific island countries in the 19 seventies. The chinese stepped up their engagement of two thousand and six years ago. They sent the premier to several of the islands and pledged over 400 million us. Dollars in concessional loans. China's direct investment in the region is now two point seven billion. It stands as the second largest doner to the region, which is after only australia.
