Is the Democratic Party Trying to Tie It to the Left?

i think there's a frustration with the middle to what, or independence, whatever yo want to call them. If the economy were better, if the president's handling of afghanistan were better, people felt more confident about covid then republican attempts to tie the democratic party to the very far left would still be effective. But i don't think they would be as effective when everything else feels like it is going to hell.
