Weeping Willows - A Loner Tree?

The weeping willow is itself a loner tree. So there is something really tragic about the figure of the tree in our world. Are trees intelligent, conscious creatures? And if so, should they have rights? Or do they instead exhibit mutual aid and collaboration? It's hard to avoid the impression that trees have been excluded from the way we think about everyday life. I recently read the book the over story, which was all about trees, and for the first time, started thinking about trees and really noticing them around me. And this just felt awful. Initially, i was like, how was i so ignorant of trees?
