The Awakening by Stravinsky - A Review

Stravinsky alternates between more violent and percussive crescendos than attacks. An entire 16 measures go by without a meter change, which is extraordinary for this piece. A group of percussion keep a steady thumping beat while another unusual instrumental combination of an English horn and an alto flute circle each other. Stravinsky even tone paints like Debussy, giving us little gusts of wind to add to the tension. And then without warning, the entire world erupts.
