The Differences Between Quartz and Mechanical Watches

The escapement is the moving component of a mechanical watch. It's what you hear tick inside of it, like a wristwatch as opposed to a grandfather clock because that's the pendulum. Quartz has a property called piezo electricity. So if you squeeze a quartz crystal, then it generates a very small potential difference that produces a voltage on the surface relative to the inside.
