The Placebo Effect: How to Taste Low Quality Wines at High Prices
The marketing placebo effect means that your brain has attached extra rewards to the product. You literally taste the same wine as better because you've been told it's really pricey. One of Hilk's colleagues tested this in a vineyard and they weren't fooled at all. It's reassuring to know that our choices can only be pushed so far. That still leaves tweaking room, opportunities to alter the value we place on a product before we choose whether or not to purchase it.
